c o a l , The gray-and-white canine walked calmly through the park, his red leash held by a human. His owner, his master. The one whom taught him agility, and continued to teach him other things. Coal didn't care much for other humans or canines, but his master still forced him to meet others. It was obvious his master was trying to get him to be okay with others. Coal was okay, sometimes. He didn't mind playing with other dogs, so long as they respected him. He respected others, and was careful not to cross boundaries he wasn't supposed to. Probably the only reason he hadn't bothered to bite the strangers that insisted on petting him.
After a while, Coal's human started giving the dog commands. Of course, he obeyed. This was how Coal was taught. Humans came above him, and he listened to them. Besides, he got a tastey treat after every trick he performed, so what harm did it really do? It made the humans giggle and pet him and give him tastey food. How was that bad? A little later, after walking around and talking with others, the human leaned down and unclipped Coal's leash. He told Coal to go, and go Coal did. He tore across the grass, sending stray dirt into the air. He raced off, moving easily, his muscles all working together under his thick coat. Running once around the perimeter, Coal slowed himself to a walk, panting, his lungs taking in the oxygen his body needed.

Luna was running through the woods taking in her new surroundings. For a while, Luna had been residing in the same spot in the woods. She had been there for about a month now and had had no problems. However, a few days ago, Luna had an encounter with another wolf that was not very happy to have mad an encounter with her. She ended up fleeing the area and now she was in a strange place that she had never been before. She was already skittish because she was a lone pup out on her own but now she was even more skittish and frightened because she was in a new place. To make matters even worse, she could smell the scent of humans. When Luna was about five months old, these humans came and took both her mother and father away from her. They would have taken Luna as well but before they could spot her, Luna’s mother had told her to run and hide and even though she knew that she was about to lose her parents, Luna did what she was told. She hid for a while and when she thought that everything was ok, she slowly crept back to where her parents were. However, when she got there, both her parents and the humans were gone. There was no sight of them and, ever since that day, Luna has hated and been terrified of humans. When Luna first smelt the humans’ scent, she began to shake and she sunk deeper into the woods. She kept a careful eye out for any humans as she kept walking. After walking for a while, she got to the edge of the woods where she was. She stopped dead in her tracks staring at the sight in front of her. In front of her stood a huge open space filled with both dogs and humans. She didn’t know what this place was and she knew she didn’t like it because of all the humans. However, as she was about to turn around, she saw something that caught her eye; a dog. However, to her, this didn’t look like any ordinary dog. For this dog was running, running faster than any dog she’d seen run. He was running almost as fast as a wolf runs. Luna couldn’t help but step to the edge of the woods and watch, fascinated.

c o a l , His legs and chest burned, the muscles left feeling tired. But Coal loved this feeling. Just as he loved moving over, under, and through obstacles on the agility course. The canid loved moving. Stillness was too boring for the young male. Even now, as he walked panting, his paws were itching to send up more dirt and grass. However, the dog wasn't stupid. He'd end up dehydrating himself if he continued moving at such speeds. The weather outside was steamy, hot. His thick fur made him even hotter. Even walking soon became a chore for him. The sun glared down at him, heating up his pelt. The dark points sucked in the heat like a vacuum, and soon Coal felt he needed to get out of the dreadful sun.
Stretching, the male moved quickly to a shade, standing beneath a tall, thick tree. Icy blue eyes scanned over the area. At first, Coal was looking for his master, making sure the human wasn't calling him back or in any trouble. Locating the human, Coal was satisfied to see that his master was laughing with human friends who also had dogs. His eyes moved away, searching for entertainment. Only a short eye flicker later, he noticed a dog whom had noticed him. Only, this animal didn't seem like a dog. Coal took in the scent, first smelling female, and then smelling the noticeable scents of wilderness. He tilted his head, curious now. A wolf? Here? Then again, it wasn't really that uncommon. Just a bit strange.
Coal stood and trotted a little closer, but didn't want to overcrowd the female. At this closer range, he noticed she seemed a little young. A puppy, maybe? It felt awkward to just stand staring, so the smaller dog lifted his paw in a trick his master had taught, like a wave. "Hi, my name's Cupun Ataneq, but you can call me Coal." He told her, his voice a low bark, though he preferred silence over anything.

Luna stood there watching the dog for a while. It fascinated her to see the dog running as fast as he was. It even intrigued her enough to where it took all her will power not to run out of the cover of the woods and start running with him. It seemed like all of his heart was in running. Even when he had to stop to take a break and catch his breath, it was like he wanted to keep on going.
Luna watched the other dog walk over to a tree and stop beneath it. Luna wasn't surprised that the dog needed to find shade because his coat was black. That is why Luna did so well in the summer months. Her silver white coat reflected the sunlight and kept her cool. She didn't get as hot as quickly as other canines did. Luna was even more amazed, or shocked rather, when she saw the dog looking at a human. "Is that his master? Does he actually...like...humans? How does he trust them? Why doesn't he run off while he can?" So many questions were flooding through the young wolf's mind.
Luna gasped when she saw the dog had noticed her. She walked back a few steps and growled quietly. It was not that Luna was trying to be mean or aggressive. It was just being a young wolf and a shy loner, she didn't really know how react. However, as the dog neared and she saw that he didn't mean any harm, she stopped growling and stepped forwards slowly. "Hi, my name's Cupun Ataneq, but you can call me Coal." the dog said in a low bark. "Hi, my name's Luna. The young wolf said shyly looking down to avoid eye contact. She would have looked the dog in the eyes except that she had been taught as a young pup not to look another in the eyes unless trying to show aggression or dominance. That was the last thing Luna wanted to do.
